Noah's allergic reaction

Today was kind of a scary day for both Noah and I. Yesterday I bought some cashews because they looked really good and I was craving something salty. When I was eating some today Noah came up and of course wanted to taste one. I gave him just one cashew. Not even a minute went by when Noah starting getting upset. He started to try to wipe the cashew off of his tongue. I just assumed he didn't like the taste so I told him to go get a drink of water. Even after a drink he just kept being fussy. Then I noticed that his face was completely covered in red hives and he couldn't breathe very well. Noah had an allergic reaction a couple of years ago, but we never figured out what caused it. So after that first reaction I went to the store and bought a huge bottle of Benadryl to be prepared for the next time. Luckily today, almost two years later, when he had this huge reaction I had the bottle of Benadryl on hand to give him. The Benadryl definitely saved me from having to take Noah to the hospital or calling 911. After I was finally able to force him to swallow some of it, Noah started to calm down and I could tell it was helping. After a couple hours when it seemed like he was feeling better he started to gag and threw up all over himself and me. Of course it happened right at the time I was supposed to pick Peyton up from the bus stop. So I had to give Noah a quick bath and throw everthing in the washing machine and barely made it in time to pick Peyton up. It was a very scary day for us, but I'm glad that I now know that it is cashews that Noah is allergic to. Oh, and did I mention that this happened 15 minutes before I was supposed to take Noah over to the school to get his pictures taken. This just wasn't our lucky day. No more nuts for Noah!

I was hoping you had taken a picture of him. Poor guy--atleast now you know what it is!

I can totally sympathize! Maybe you should take him to the allergist and get an epi-pen to have on hand. If nothing else, it gives you a peice mind knowing that if the benedryl doesn't work, you can still save his life. Nut allergies are scary. Good luck to you guys.

Those are things that make you scared to have kids in the first place... YOU are totally responsible for their well being, and that is scary, ya know! So Glad he's alright, sometimes it is a blessing to find an allergy that way

I'm looking at you blog right now and Zach thinks the baby widget is hilarious! He is laughing his head off as I'm sure you could imagine.

Sorry about the allergy. It is a really scarey thing. I still remember and early one that Brock had when he was a baby. Jeri had just eaten a reeses miniature peanut butter cup, and she kissed him goodbye and then left him with me to tend. He had a horrible reaction in just minutes. Take good care of him!!!!
